Information in other languages

Who can vote?

The right to vote in parliamentary elections is based on universal suffrage, which means that the right to vote is not restricted on the basis of gender, religion, ethnicity, property ownership, or other distinctions. Nevertheless, you do have to meet certain criteria to be eligible to vote in parliamentary elections. You must:

  • be a Norwegian citizen;
  • be at least 18 by the end of the election year; and
  • be, or once have been, registered in the Population Register as resident in Norway.

Remember to bring your identification when you vote

You must show your ID to cast your vote. Examples of valid identification include a passport, driving licence or bank card with your photo. You can also use other types of identification. As a minimum, the identification must contain your name, date of birth and a photo.

How do you vote?

The election takes place by attending in person at a polling station on election day, or by casting an advance vote. If you have voted in advance, this is the one that applies. You can freely decide whether you want to vote in advance or vote on election day.

Election information in several languages

The Norwegian Directorate of Elections has prepared information brochures about the election in several languages. The brochures are available in these languages: (WILL BE UPDATED)

Get help to vote

Contact an electoral officer if you have questions or need guidance when voting. Electoral staff have a duty of confidentiality.

Do you have a mental or physical disability that prevents you from voting alone? Then you are entitled to get help to vote from an election worker or another person of your choice.

Vote at home

Voters who, due to illness or disability, cannot go to a polling station, can cast an advance vote at home. Two election workers will then come to your home and receive your vote.

The deadline for applying to cast a vote in the pre-voting period for the sick and disabled where they are staying, is Thursday 4 September at 12 p.m.

Vote from abroad

Voters who live or stay abroad can vote in advance at Norwegian embassies and other foreign stations or at other appointed polling stations from 1 July 2025.
