Stavanger 2025 marks the 900th anniversary of the city, cathedral, and diocese.

In 1125, Stavanger Cathedral was completed, marking the beginning of the story of Stavanger as a city and bishopric. Stavanger’s 900th anniversary will be celebrated throughout 2025. The 900th anniversary celebration consists of several anniversary projects and initiatives that will celebrate our history, build community and leave a lasting mark.

The city of Stavanger is the lead organizer, with the Church of Norway and the University of Stavanger as co-organizers.
Additional partners are Museum Stavanger, Stavanger City Centre, Stavanger Trekking Association, and Sølvberget.

Three main themes

The 900th anniversary celebration will feature various projects and initiatives to foster community and leave a lasting legacy. The program is divided into three main themes:

  • Past, highlighting history and cultural heritage, with the Cathedral as a focal point.
  • Present, exploring our relationship with nature and the world today, with Pedersgata as the main focus.
  • Future, looking towards the future and considering how we will meet the challenges ahead, with Ullandhaug as the central theme.
