The Neighbourhood Grant 2025

Stavanger is turning 900 years old, and we're inviting everyone to throw their own birthday party to celebrate our city.

Updated : 2/21/2025

A 900th anniversary is a big deal, and a celebration of the city should also be a celebration of the community and all the people who make Stavanger what it is. There are 150 000 people living in our city, and that means there are many different ways to celebrate now you can apply for funds to create your very own party!

With the Neighbourhood Grant, you too can become part of the anniversary! Anyone who wants to celebrate Stavanger can apply.

You can apply as an individual, or on behalf of an association or organization. School classes and PTAs at schools and kindergartens can also apply, and the event can be held in the schoolyard in your area, or in your nearest community center!

500 000 NOK has been set aside for the Neighbourhood Grant. This money will be divided equally between our nine city districts.

– We want small and large celebrations to pop up all over Stavanger, whether it's a barbecue in the playground, a long table in the housing cooperative or a youth party at the youth club. Now it's just a matter of finding flags and pennants and starting planning, we hope for many good and creative suggestions for how a neighbourhood celebration can be carried out, says Stine Honoré from Stavanger 2025.

How do I apply?

You just need to fill out this application form. In the form, you write a little about how you want to create the celebration, and who you want to invite. To fill out the form, you must log in with MinID.

When the application has been processed, you will receive a written answer. If the application is granted, the money will be paid out to the account number that you enter in the application form.

You have to apply within April 1st.

What can I apply for?

You can apply for funds to cover the costs of the birthday celebration, such as:

  • Expenses for food, drinks and decorations. We recommend you to buy local and sustainable decorations.
  • Implementation of program, entertainment and activities that give the event current content. This can preferably be something that represents your local community or district, or that contributes to the birthday theme.
  • Open events in the schoolyard, community center or the like can apply for up to NOK 15 000. Otherwise, you can apply for up to NOK 5 000 to cover expenses for the event.

The event must:

  • be alcohol-free
  • include at least 10 participants
  • you can only apply for support for one event, and it has to be free to join the event
  • if the organizer is a team, a school or an association, support is not given to celebrations that fall under ordinary activities or regular events.

The event must be carried out by 1 October 2025. After the event has been carried out, you must submit a short description of the event and how the funds were used. Have a great celebration!
