Climate

Sailing is the epitome of environmentally friendly transport – powered by the wind, without harmful emissions. In the port of Stavanger, all ships are offered the opportunity to connect to onshore power.

Environment

The project plans to reduce the environmental impact with measures such as waste management, the use of renewable energy and an emphasis on sustainable transport for both participants and the public. We want to achieve certification as an Environmental Lighthouse for the implementation of the festival and the ship’s visit.

Social sustainability

Inclusion, involvement and combating exclusion are pillars of Stavanger's Tall Ships project, whether you are invited as a volunteer, trainee sailor or visiting public. We will facilitate an age-friendly and child-friendly event with good accessibility for people with disabilities.

Through the sail trainee programme, we want to allow young people to meet other young people, sail together, build community on board, experience mastery and involvement while sailing competitively. Letting young people experience their own social value in an international community provides positive experiences and memories for life.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

The Tall Ships Races 2026 Stavanger is linked to the following UN Sustainable Development Goals:

  1. Good Health and Well-Being
  2. Gender Equality
  3. Reduced Inequalities
  4. Sustainable Cities and Communities
  5. Responsible Consumption and Production
  6. Life Below Water
