Ceremony times
Stavanger municipality will conduct weddings on Fridays from 11.00 to 14.30, and some Saturdays.
There are no wedding ceremonies on so-called red days, and also not on odd working days (Fridays where the day before was a holiday). For example, we don't offer weddings the day after Ascension Day.
The ceremonies are currently taking place in Stavanger municipality's administration building at Olav Kyrres gate 23.
Booking
For booking a civil ceremony, please send an inquiry to Stavanger municipality: vielse@stavanger.kommune.no or call 51 50 75 51 / 51 50 71 37.
Submission of documents
Before the ceremony, the bridal couple must make sure that self-declarations, witness statements (maid of honor/best man) and certificates are sent to the National Registry (Skatteetaten) to verify that the conditions for marriage have been met.
The National Registry will then issue a marriage license (prøvingsattest) valid for four months. This must be sent to Stavanger municipality / Politisk sekretariat, PO Box 8001, 4068 Stavanger, or delivered to Olav Kyrres gate 23 no later than two weeks before the wedding ceremony.
All questions related to marriage license must be addressed to the population registry at your regional tax office (Skatteetaten). Final marriage certificate will be submitted by the population registry and sent to you by mail or in Altinn.
Language
The wedding ceremony can take place in Norwegian or English. For other languages, the bridal couple must provide an interpreter.
